BP CEO search is big oil's best chance to fix its gender problem

Despite adapting to societal changes, major oil companies like Exxon Mobil, Chevron, Shell, and BP have yet to appoint a female CEO. This could change with BP, as it recently parted ways with its CEO Bernard Looney. However, appointing a female CEO would challenge over a century of precedent in the male-dominated industry. Currently, women represent only 13% of the oil and gas C-suite in the US and occupy just 22% of jobs in the industry worldwide. Obstacles such as limited access to job opportunities and unfair evaluations contribute to the gender imbalance.
