No recession risk for US economy as a whole, Bessent tells NBC

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the 43-day government shutdown resulted in a permanent economic loss of $11 billion, even as he expressed confidence about growth prospects in 2026. He said interest rate–sensitive sectors such as housing had slipped into recession but maintained that the broader economy was not headed for negative growth.
